Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was left explaining his reaction after the team drafted former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the No. 13 overall pick.
“What do you guys think — am I angry right now?” McVay said with a smirk as he entered a media session after viral images showed his resting coach face, leading some to wonder if he was upset by the pick.
“We couldn’t be in more lockstep in every decision that we make,” McVay said of general manager Les Snead. “Couldn’t be more excited about us to continue to lead together, but every decision that we make is collective and collaborative. … This is my buddy right here.”

One of McVay’s former coordinators and the current head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, Mike LaFleur, created a new nickname for his mentor.
“I was surprised at Mr. Grumpy that night because I know how excited he is about that quarterback. He always really liked that quarterback,” LaFleur said of McVay on the “Rich Eisen Show” Tuesday, via Rams Wire.
He admitted everyone in the Rams building loved Simpson, McVay included.
“The one thing that we can say as coaches is you don’t really get the evaluation process until you’re done with the season and obviously in L.A. we went to the NFC championship so you kind of were a week or two behind or whatnot,” he said.
“But there was a lot of love for Ty Simpson in that building. Obviously, I was in that building so that wasn’t shocking to me at all. How it got to that point, where they were all in lockstep for the 13th pick, obviously, I wasn’t there for those conversations, but the beginning of it, I know Les, Sean and the rest of them all were really excited.”
Simpson will get to sit behind future Hall of Fame quarterback Matthew Stafford.
