A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire broke out at an LGBT nightclub.

Partygoers and residents were evacuated when the ‘significant’ blaze broke out at the Milton Keynes venue.

A 51-year-old man from the city was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remained in custody.

Ch Supt Emma Baillie, of Thames Valley Police, said of the blaze at the Pink Punters club: “This was a significant fire in which a large number of people had to be evacuated.”

Police received reports at 2am on Sunday of the fire at the club in the Fenny Stratford area.

Partygoers and residents around Watling Street were evacuated, police said.

Footage appears to show flames inside the top floor of the building and towering above its roof.

Officers and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue crews were called to the scene as roads were closed.

Pink Punters has been running for more than two decades and has dance floors, an outdoor bar and karaoke.

Ch Supt Baillie added: “Thankfully, no one was injured and staff at the venue worked quickly and effectively to safely evacuate everyone.

“At this time, it would be too early to comment on any particular motivation for this incident and we would respectfully ask for people not to speculate.”
