Scottie Scheffler reacts to Jim Furyk being named US Ryder Cup captain

Scottie Scheffler reacted to Jim Furyk being named the U.S. Ryder Cup captain for the 2027 tournament.

The 46th Ryder Cup isn’t set to take place until next year, but Team USA has officially landed on a new captain as the PGA of America announced last week that Jim Furyk would be stepping into the role.

“Jim Furyk has been an influential figure in the United States team room for nearly three decades,” Nathan Charnes, PGA of America Vice President said. “He is a trusted, widely-respected leader and possesses a wealth of Ryder Cup experience that can only serve to strengthen our team.

Competing in Ryder Cups hosted in Europe presents unique challenges and we are confident in Jim’s leadership to guide the U.S. Team over the next two years as we prepare for Ireland.”

Reacting to the news ahead of the Cadillac Championship was likely future Ryder Cup team member and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

“Jim is a really, really good leader,” Scheffler said of Jim Furyk. “He’s extremely organized in the way he does things, and I think with Jim you just have so much experience across so many team events, whether it’s playing or being a captain.

“I think he just brings a lot of knowledge and experience to the table, and he has a way he likes to do things. He’s very experienced in that role, and I think he’s going to do a great job.”

The last time Team USA defeated Team Europe in the Ryder Cup came in 2021. Since then, the U.S. has dropped back-to-back competitions in 2023 and 2025.

Furyk brings extensive Ryder Cup experience as both a player and a captain, having competed in nine consecutive events from 1997 to 2014.

“The opportunity to captain the U.S. Ryder Cup Team for a second time is a tremendous honor,” Furyk said. “I am deeply grateful to the PGA of America Ryder Cup Committee for entrusting me to lead our team into the 46th Ryder Cup. My passion for the Ryder Cup and dedication to the U.S. Team have never been stronger.”
