The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall on nine potato chip products manufactured by Utz Quality Foods, LLC, for potential Salmonella contamination. The recalled chips were distributed under the brand names Zapp's and Dirty and sold at retailers nationwide.
Utz is recalling the potato chips after one of its third-party suppliers, California Dairies, Inc., issued a recall for milk powder that may be contaminated with Salmonella. Utz uses California Dairies' milk powder in some of its potato chip seasonings, so it is recalling a limited batch of Zapp's and Dirty brand chips that may contain the contaminated ingredient.
Just last week Ghirardelli recalled a select group of powdered drink mixes and Aldi issued a public health alert for its frozen breakfast pizzas in response to California Dairies' initial recall announcement.

What To Do if You Have the Recalled Potato Chips
Utz has not received any complaints or reports of illnesses from consumers, however, the brand is recalling the chips out of an abundance of caution. If you have the recalled Zapp's or Dirty potato chips, you should not eat them. Instead, throw them away or return them to the original place of purchase for a refund.
Consuming foods contaminated with Salmonella could lead to serious and sometimes fatal infections—especially in children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. While most healthy individuals experience mild symptoms, like fever, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, and recover without treatment within seven days, in severe cases, the Salmonella organism can travel to the bloodstream and cause more serious illnesses, like arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
If you have eaten the contaminated potato chips, you should monitor yourself for symptoms of a Salmonella infection, which can present themselves within six hours and six days of exposure. If you are experiencing any Salmonella symptoms, you should contact your healthcare provider.
