Donnie Wahlberg shares personal update after life change: 'It doesn't make me not me'

Boston Blue star Donnie Wahlberg revealed a big shift in his personal life, but stated that the change 'doesn't make me not me'

Donnie Wahlberg has made a big change in his personal life after an "on-and-off journey" for years.

The Boston Blue actor has fully embraced his faith and recommitted to Christianity after admitting that, despite his fame and fortune, he has felt "empty."

"It's really in the last year that I really have committed myself on a deeper level," he said on The George Janko Show.

Donnie said that his role as "peacemaker" in both his family and his career, and his instinct to "fix everything" left him feeling like he was "missing something."

"I felt at the bottom… everything to the outside world looks perfect and I was empty," he said. "I can't do it anymore without Him. I'm missing something in my life."

'It makes me better'

However, Donnie insists that his spiritual reset won't completely change who he is. "It doesn't make me not me. It makes me a better me," he noted, adding that he now wants to use his platform to "let my light shine… to glorify Him."

Donnie is not alone in his renewed faith, as his wife, Jenny McCarthy, revealed in December that she has "completely surrendered" to God.

"Some people have to work really hard to hear Him," Jenny, who was raised Catholic, said on the “Culture Apothecary” podcast. "I've got a direct line. I mean, Jesus is my homie."

She also described embracing "conservative values" such as "questioning authority, less government control, [being] closer to God."

Relationship with Jenny

Jenny and Donnie met in March 2013 and married at the historic Hotel Baker in St Charles, Illinois, on August 31, 2014.

The couple renews their vows each year for their anniversary. Donnie previously addressed why they chose to renew their vows, writing on Instagram: "Some people ask 'why do you renew your vows every year?' Those tend to be the same people that also ask 'how do you keep your marriage so new?' #happyanniversary @jennymccarthy aka Mrs Wahlberg.

"I'm so blessed to call you my wife, and so honored to be your husband. I thank god every day for you, and I thank you always for 'taking care of my heart' — as promised. I love you. On to forever."

On their ninth anniversary in 2023, Jenny paid a heartfelt tribute to her husband, sharing a slew of photographs from their relationship over the years, including snippets from their wedding day.

She sweetly penned: "As I reflect on our journey, I feel honored, grateful and blessed that I get to live inside the greatest love story ever lived. I'm grateful for your kindness that touches every soul you meet, and the love that has become the very heartbeat of my existence.

"As each passing year passes, I fall in love with you all over again. With you, every moment is a treasure, every memory is a masterpiece, and every day is a celebration of the beautiful love we share."

Jenny added: "Here's to us, my love – to the past we've cherished, the present we hold, and the future that awaits us. Thank you for being my partner, my confidant, and my forever love. Happy Anniversary."
