PGA Tour announces historic news for Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick

Brothers Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick set a new course record at the 2026 Zurich Classic at New Orleans' TPC Louisiana on Saturday.

Brothers Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick hold a four-stroke lead after the third round of the 2026 Zurich Classic at New Orleans’ TPC Louisiana.

After notching a 15-under 57 in the four-ball format on Saturday, the Fitzpatrick brothers set a new 54-hole scoring record at the Zurich Classic event with a 30-under score for the tournament.

Saturday’s 57 in the team format marks a course record at TPC Louisiana.

“The record-breaking brothers! Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick set the course record with a 15-under 57 for a four-shot lead @Zurich_Classic,” the PGA Tour wrote in a post on social media.

Matt and Alex’s four-stroke lead is just one stroke shy of the largest ever lead heading into the final round at the Zurich Classic, trailing the five-stroke lead accomplished by Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele in 2022.

Matt and Alex made a strong move on Friday, carding a 7-under 65 in the more difficult alternate-shot portion of the two-man team event. That second round performance got the brothers within one stroke of the lead, which was previously held by Alex Smalley and Hayden Springer.

Saturday’s stunning third-round performance continues a hot streak of success for Matt Fitzpatrick, who notched his second PGA Tour win of the 2026 season with a playoff victory over World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler at the RBC Heritage last weekend.

The Fitzpatrick brothers have a lot to gain with a win on Sunday.

Matt will earn his fifth career PGA Tour title and become the first player since Scheffler in 2024 to notch back-to-back PGA Tour wins. Alex would earn his PGA Tour card for the next two years.

Sunday’s final round will switch back to the alternate-shot format.
