Survivor Greece is off the air after a harrowing accident.
A contestant on the series, Stavros Floros, experienced a life-threatening injury while spearfishing off the coast of Dominican Republic during filming.
According to the Toronto Sun citing local Greek authorities, Floros was reportedly “diving without a surface marker buoy in an area frequented by tourist vessels” when a passing boat “accidentally struck him.”
The 21-year-old beekeeper allegedly “sustained severe injuries to his legs from the vessel’s outboard engine propellers, including a partial amputation of the left leg and significant trauma to the right ankle.”
Following the incident, production company AcunMedya confirmed an investigation is underway. “From the very first moment, there was an immediate response to provide assistance and safely transport the injured contestant," AcunMedya said per the Toronto Sun, "while the competent port authorities are investigating the causes of the incident in order to fully determine the circumstances."
It noted that Floros “remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition and is out of danger.”

Meanwhile, SKAI TV has suspended the broadcast of Survivor Greece, currently in its 13th season, “until the causes of the accident are fully investigated.”
“SKAI is closely monitoring the progress of the participant's health and will contribute in every possible way to his treatment,” it noted, “as well as to any hospitalization and rehabilitation care required.”
While no one has ever died while playing Survivor—in its original US series or abroad—the series is no stranger to scary accidents.
During season 49, contestant Jake Latimer suffered a bite from a poisonous water snake while standing in the shallows off the coast of the Fijian island.
While he ultimately proved to be okay, Latimer was immediately pulled from the game in a medical evacuation, cutting his time on the series short.
Following the incident, host Jeff Probst reflected on just how high the stakes of Survivor really are.
“What any evacuation says about this game is that it’s real,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published in October. “I still get asked all the time if Survivor is real. But for anyone who still wonders, that was a real sea krait, that was a real bite, and that was a very terrifying situation.”
And during the now-airing season 50, contestant Kyle Fraser was also forced to exit the show early after rupturing his Achilles tendon during an immunity challenge.
But he didn’t go quietly, telling Entertainment Weekly in February, “I would’ve stayed. I argued with them for quite some time. Jeff will tell you. I mean, we argued for a long time. I told him I'm a lawyer, I'd sign a waiver. I want to stay out there because I think my tribe was definitely going to keep me.”
However, once the severity of Kyle’s injury was made clear, he knew it was the right call.
As he put it, “It was clear I needed to go.”
