Over 60,000 cartons of milk recalled in 4 states

The milk may lead to adverse health consequences.

For those of you out there who haven’t been swayed by alternative milks and still stick to good ol’ cow’s milk, you’re going to want to check your fridge. While the calcium boost is no doubt good for your bones, a recall by one of the big-name milk brands may not be so kind.

A voluntary Class II recall affects Horizon Organic Chocolate Organic Lowfat Milk, distributed in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Oregon. Over 3,500 cases, each containing 18 8-ounce cartons, are the subject of the recall and are being pulled from store shelves. That’s over 60,000 cartons total. The reason for the recall? “Package integrity compromised,” according to the report.

While there is no further detail on how exactly the packaging has been compromised, because this is a Class II recall, consuming the affected milk could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. Furthermore, any damage to the packaging could cause the milk to spoil or bacteria to grow.

The affected chocolate milk has best-by dates of August 14 and August 15, 2026, and the following UPC codes:

  • UPC code 742365004322 sold in six 8-fluid-ounce milk boxes
  • UPC code 742365004322 sold in three 6-packs and 18 8-fluid-ounce containers

Consumers should not drink the milk if they have it; instead, they should throw it away. The good news is you can still enjoy a cold glass of chocolate milk by making it yourself at home with regular milk and chocolate syrup or cocoa powder.

The most recent major milk recall affected Prairie Farms' fat-free milk in December 2025. Those gallons were potentially contaminated with food-grade cleaning agents.
