Golden Tempo emerged as the winner of The 2026 Kentucky Derby, capping off a tightly contested race with a narrow victory over race favorite Renegade.
Golden Tempo hung back for a majority of the race and was well behind entering the stretch run. Jockey Jose Ortiz then helped kick the horse into a sprint to the finish, making up ground quickly and pulling even with Renegade through the stretch run.
The two horses battled hard to the finish, but Golden Tempo was able to eke out a narrow, neck-long victory in the race's final seconds.

Golden Tempo's victory was a historic one for his trainer, Cherie DeVaux. She becomes the first female trainer to win the Kentucky Derby and just the second-ever to win a Triple Crown race along with Jena Antonucci, whose horse Arcangelo won the Belmont Stakes in 2023.
