Eric Clapton may not have been brought "to his knees," but he did leave the stage.
The legendary rocker abruptly exited the stage while performing on Thursday (May 7) in Madrid, Spain, after being hit in the chest by what appeared to be a vinyl record, per footage shared on X (Twitter).
“Very sad image today in Eric Clapton concert in Madrid,” one concertgoer wrote on X. “Some guy threw something to EC at the end, ending with no encore.”
The "Tears in Heaven" musician was near the end of his set at the Movistar Arena, having just performed his cover of J.J. Cale's song "Cocaine." After the incident, Clapton didn't return for an encore as usual, which was expected to be "Before You Accuse Me," per Guitar World.
Currently, the blues guitar icon is on a European tour, which is set to conclude this week in Germany. Slowhand will return to the United States later this year for a small North American tour, which runs through September.
