A man has listed all the reasons cats don't make good pets—with a twist that has led him to go viral.
Brian Rowlan is the proud owner of Bonnie the dachshund, a breed known for their curious, friendly and feisty nature, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC).
Dachshunds are noted for being affectionate towards their families but with an independent streak—but Rowlan's pup is a bit of an outlier, as she can't get close enough to her owner.
Rowlan shared a video to his TikTok account, @wildideaswithbrian, on August 16, explaining why he preferred dogs to cats, with his first reason being that cats "are not very respectful of your space."
"You need a pet that will stay back and keep its distance, and have some manners and decency, and not just be always rubbing against you or telling you what to do or demanding things," he said.
And while it might first appear that Rowlan is being serious, it's quickly revealed that this is a satirical video—because as he speaks, Bonnie is climbing on top of him, doing everything she can to not only be close to him, but to be inside his clothing.
She burrows into his collar and ends up under his shirt, almost kicking him in the face with her back paw as she burrows inside.
Rowlan doesn't react at all as he continues on his playful rant, telling viewers that cats have "no manners," and "that's why I have dogs"—as Bonnie's face pops out of his shirt collar.
"They're more obedient, they listen better, they follow orders and instructions," he says, as he feeds Bonnie a treat and she returns to her nest under his shirt. He then says dogs, unlike cats, "don't tear up your skin with their claws."
Rowlan wrote over the video: "Why cats are the worst," and added in the caption: "Why dogs are better than cats."
It proved massively popular, with close to 900,000 likes and a whopping 5.7 million views, as Rowlan told Newsweek his video has "become a source of joy as hundreds of people have gone and posted pics of their beloved pets that just can't get close enough either."
Comments on the video showed dozens of viewers with their own pets getting as close as possible: lying on them, burrowing into their clothes, and even standing on their owner's head. And it's not just dogs or cats, as some viewers shared photos with their pet chickens, rats, lizards, and even a snake.
One viewer joked: "Sire, I don't mean to alarm you but I think there's a cat disguised as a dog in your shirt."
Another asked: "How the hell did you record that with a straight face?" while one declared: "Never had a dachshund video been more accurate."
