“Love Is Blind” Season 4 stars Chelsea Griffin and Kwame Appiah have shared that they are separating after four years of marriage.
On May 15, Griffin and Appiah uploaded a somber black-and-white picture of them in a joint Instagram post with a caption that read, “Life Update,” and included a mending heart emoji. The next two slides in the post were separate statements confirming that they are getting a divorce.
Appiah wrote in her statement, “Last week would have marked our fourth wedding anniversary. Out of respect for the life we shared, I wanted to address this moment directly with the community that has supported us over the years. It’s heartbreaking to share that our marriage is coming to an end.”
She continued, “This is not the outcome I hoped for, and I entered this relationship with deep love, commitment, and the intention of building a lasting life together.”
Griffin said that she and Appiah have realized that their lives are taking them in different directions.
“I poured my whole heart into this marriage and wanted it to work until the very end, but lasting marriages require more than love alone,” she added. “I remain grateful for the life, memories, and experiences we shared. I don’t believe any chapter of our lives is wasted, each one shapes us, teaches us, and becomes part of our personal journey.”
Griffin said that she is still hopeful for her future, just like she was the first day she stepped into the pods on Season 4 of the Netflix reality dating show. She said she hopes to find clarity and healing. At the end of her post, she thanked fans for their kindness and support over the years.
As for Appiah, he expressed a similar grateful sentiment in his statement.
“Last week would have been our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, we’re taking this moment to announce that after 4 years together, we’re going our separate ways. This isn’t something either of us ever imagined, and it’s been one of the hardest decisions to make,” he began.
Appiah added that he and Griffin “built a life filled with memories, laughter, and love that I’ll always be grateful for. We will always have respect and care for each other in everything we shared. We’re eternally grateful for all the love, support and purpose we gained during our time together.”
He also echoed Griffin’s explanation that the two are divorcing because their life goals do not align.
“Thank you all for the many years of support. Much love to you all,” he concluded.
Appiah and Griffin hit it off in the pods and he penned an original song for her, called “Real Love,” that he sang before he proposed. Although the two faced some challenging moments, they decided to say “I do” and became one of three couples in Season 4 to get married.
After the show, Appiah and Griffin kept fans updated by frequently sharing silly videos together on Instagram. They also appeared in the audience as two of the many alumni that attended the “Love Is Blind” Season 10 reunion in March.
Appiah and Griffin join the following couples who have split after getting married on the show: Danielle Ruhl and Nick Tompson; Jarrette Jones and Iyanna McNeely; Colleen Reed and Matt Bolton; Alexa Alfia and Brennon Lemieux; Lydia Velez Gonzalez and James “Milton” Johnson IV; Tyler Francis and Ashley Adionser; and Amber Morrison and Jordan Faeth.
