Sydney Sweeney, one of Hollywood's most prominent movie stars, was slated to appear in one of the year's most anticipated releases: Devil Wears Prada 2, the long-awaited sequel to David Frankel's Oscar-nominated film.
It appeared to be match made in publicity heaven. Until it wasn't.
The team behind DWP2 made the "creative decision" to cut Sweeney's scene, according to Entertainment Weekly. Sweeney reportedly appeared in the beginning of the film as part of the introduction to Emily Blunt's character.
Blunt, who plays the former Runway assistant Emily Charlton, is working as the head of Dior's United States operation in the sequel, and she dresses Sweeney -- who plays herself -- in the now-cut cameo. EW reports the filmmakers felt the three-minute scene "did not work structurally with the rest of the sequence," so they nixed it.
While Sweeney's DWP2 cameo didn't go as planned, she's still in the spotlight with HBO's Euphoria hurtling toward its likely series finale. Devil Wears Prada 2, meanwhile, will hit theaters nationwide on May 1.
