The PGA's new calendar claims its first victim

The Tournament of Champions was already canceled this year due to water availability issues on Maui, the Hawaiian island where Kapalua is located

Brian Rolapp proposes, and Brian Rolapp disposes. The overhaul that Jay Monahan's successor as head of the PGA Tour announced he intended to implement in the schedule of the world's premier golf circuit is beginning to take shape. The first significant decision in this regard has already been made, according to a statement issued by the organization, and the casualty is Hawaii, which has served as the annual starting point since 2002.

Pga, statement

Both the Sentry Tournament of Champions, the event that brought together all the previous season's tournament winners in one of the most beautiful settings the sport has to offer, Kapalua, and the Sony Open at Waialae are being dropped from the tour. "We are grateful to the Kapalua resort, the County of Maui, and the State of Hawaii for their continued support of the tournament that opens our season, as well as to the fans, volunteers, and partners who have supported the event over the years," the statement reads.

The Tournament of Champions was already canceled this year due to water availability issues on Maui, the Hawaiian island where Kapalua is located. The problem with this event is that its sponsor, Sentry, has a contract with the tour until 2035, but according to the Sports Business Journal, its sponsorship could be redirected to the Torrey Pines event, which recently held its last edition under the sponsorship of Farmers Insurance. The Sony Open, meanwhile, could be added to the Champions Tour schedule, the circuit for veteran players. Rolapp's mantra is fewer tournaments and exploring large, underserved metropolitan areas. The plan is already underway.

The rules of golf are relatively complicated compared to other sports because they are played outdoors, close to nature and animals. Respecting the rules is a fundamental element in the game of golf, which, almost always based on self-control and the free conscience of the players, often sees distorted results, sometimes consciously, but often unconsciously or through carelessness, due to the failure of many players to comply with the rules of the game. In addition to the rules, golf adheres to a code of conduct, known as etiquette, which generally means playing the game with due respect for the golf course and other players. Etiquette is an essential component of this sport.
