Scherba reminded the ambassador that Russia’s allies, including the leaders of Iran, “had on their hands the blood of thousands of Ukrainian citizens” killed with the help of Shaheds and other military equipment that the Iranian government “so eagerly provided to Russia.”
“Being a person of faith, I try not to rejoice in the death of other people, even those who chose to be tormentors of my country, who did nothing bad to theirs,” the Ukrainian diplomat stated.
“But as someone who has spent three years to the tune of Iran-created machines of death howling every night in the sky over Kyiv and other peaceful Ukrainian cities, I cannot help but wish for every culprit to meet the justice they deserve. If not by human law, then in the face of God Almighty.”

At the same time, Scherba said he and the Iranian ambassador are not personally acquainted, and there is no personal animosity, but “sometimes, good diplomats must speak for bad leaders and their policies.”
“But I hope you understand that I won’t express condolences for someone whose death I do not mourn,” Scherba added.
U.S. and Israel operation against Iran
On Feb. 28, Israel and the United States announced strikes on Iran in operations named Roaring Lion (Israel) and Epic Fury (U.S.).
Numerous explosions rocked Tehran and several other major cities in Iran. The Israel Defense Forces later confirmed that 86-year-old Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in an attack on his residence, which was completely destroyed. The death of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Mohammad Pakpour was also confirmed. According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, senior security adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Shamkhani was also eliminated in the attack.
In response, Iran launched ballistic missiles at Israel. Iranian missiles and drones also struck U.S. military bases in Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. Multiple explosions were reported in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Riyadh. Israel responded by striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.

On March 1, U.S. President Donald Trump said Iranian leaders want to resume talks and he agreed, though he did not specify a timeline. The White House estimates that 48 Iranian regime leaders were eliminated in the Epic Fury operation.
Trump said the U.S. war with Iran would last about four weeks. The U.S. Armed Forces confirmed that four American service members were killed during the operation against Iran.
On March 2, Ali Larijani, a representative of the late ayatollah on Iran’s National Security Council, said Iran would not negotiate with the United States.
