Republican and former Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon defeated Democrat Ron Angeletti in Saturday's special election for a Houston-area seat in the Texas State Senate, according to unofficial election results.
Ligon received 75% of the more than 26,000 votes cast in Texas' 4th Senate District, which encompasses Chambers County and includes parts of Montgomery, Harris, Chambers, Jefferson and Galveston counties. Ligon and Angeletti were vying to replace Republican Brandon Creighton, who stepped down to become the chancellor of the Texas Tech University System.
