Pit bull waits at backyard fence, what owner captures warms hearts

"Need to make a dog door in the fence so they can play together," one social-media user wrote in the comments.

A short video shared in February has captured hearts across social media, showing a pit bull from Virginia determined to spend time with a canine friend next door.

In the TikTok video, posted under the username @kgkoba_, the pup is seen in his backyard, focused on one clear mission: getting to his furry neighbor.

Instead of barking or pacing, the dog begins digging a hole beneath the yard fence so he can reach the neighbor’s canine and play. The action is calm, deliberate, and driven purely by companionship, creating a scene that many found impossible not to smile at.

The owner acknowledged the touching moment directly in the caption. “This is when I knew Bentley was the best boy ever…Yall can keep the narrative about pit bulls. It’s about how you raise them and this speaks volumes.” The caption closes with a softer line that adds to the emotional pull of the clip: “My big baby.”

That message struck a chord with viewers, many of whom are familiar with the stereotypes often attached to pit bulls.

Georgia-based veterinarian, Jess Kirk, wrote in a post shared by VetExplainsPets, that, despite their reputation, pit bulls are not inherently aggressive, and as with any other dog, their behavior is often the result of their upbringing and the environment that surrounds them.

However, the stereotypes associated to them actually do affect their chances of getting adopted. A study by the Arizona State University, published in PLOS ONE, found that dogs labeled as pit bulls in shelter are three times less likely to be adopted than other canines.

The study also found that, when labels where removed from the dogs at the shelter, the result was a higher number of pups getting adopted, adding that breed labeling may be inadvertently penalizing those canines.

Within a short time of being posted, the video began spreading rapidly. It has so far received over 278,400 views, with viewers returning to watch Bentley’s quiet determination again and again.

One user, Amanda, commented: “Need to make a dog door in the fence so they can play together.”

Mz.midwest_59 wrote: “I’ve had Pibbles all my life. Most loyal, loving and misunderstood breeds. They are the most beautiful souls.”

RNKITTENXOXO added: “What a sweetheart! So nice they are gentle giants.”
