Cameron Diaz says 'I'm just trying to stay alive' as she makes honest confession about family life

Cameron Diaz discussed her decade-long hiatus from acting to focus on her two children and family life – see all the details.

Cameron Diaz has opened up about welcoming her first child at the age of 47 in a new interview. The now 53-year-old admitted to Ok! Magazine that she doesn't regret having taken a break from acting to focus on her family.

The actress and her husband, Benji Madden, share two children – daughter Raddix, six, and son, Cardinal, two. Cameron returned to the spotlight last year after taking a decade-long pause from the performing industry. She is set to star in the new Apple TV film Outcome.

"To be able to still do this at such a high level with people like Keanu Reeves is a thrill for me," she shared. "I'm glad I took a break and I was able to focus on family and a part of my life that means so much to me but I still love doing this. It's the best job in the world."

Cameron explained that she "loves" being a mother and that it has become the "best" part of her life. "I'm just trying to stay alive just like every other mother," she added.

This isn't the first time the star has spoken about prioritizing her family over her career. "It felt like the right thing for me to reclaim my own life, and I just really didn't care about anything else," she previously said. "Nobody's opinion, nobody's success, no one's offer, no one's anything could change my mind about my decision of taking care of myself and building the life that I really wanted to have. I think it really comes to what are you passionate about? For me, it was to build my family."

She continued: "I was not keeping up with any kind of training, I did nothing public. I said no to everything, other than for my wine. That was what I was putting most of my focus on. If I was doing anything other than just sort of being a mom and living my day-to-day. That was pretty much it. I'm just trying to stay alive, just like every other mother. I'm just trying to keep it going."

Outcome

Directed by Jonah Hill, Outcome is a comedy-crime movie that also stars Keanu Reeves and Matt Bomber. The film premiered globally on Apple TV on April 10, 2026. "Outcome is a dark comedy that centers on Reef Hawk (Reeves), a beloved Hollywood star who must dive into the depths of his hidden demons after he is extorted with a mysterious video that’s sure to shatter his image and end his career," reads the official synopsis.

"With the support of his lifelong besties Kyle (Diaz) and Xander (Bomer), along with his crisis lawyer Ira (Hill), Reef embarks on a soul-searching journey to make amends with anyone he could have possibly wronged in hopes of identifying the blackmailer. Co-writer and director Hill brings a unique lens to Reef’s wild but spiritually cleansing, nostalgic and eye-opening trip down memory lane, where confronting his past might be the only way to rescue his future."

HELLO!'s Film & TV Editor, Nicky Morris, spoke to us about the new movie. "Not only is Outcome Jonah Hill's first directorial effort in four years, but it marks the first time Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz have worked together since the 1996 crime comedy, Feeling Minnesota – one of the first movies of Cameron's career. Plus, as a satirical take on celebrity and cancel culture, Outcome couldn't be more relevant," she said.
