Hollywood hasn’t lost Jami Gertz.

The Lost Boys actress made a rare outing with her husband Tony Ressler at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s opening gala for its new David Geffen Galleries on April 16. For the museum party, she sported an all-white ensemble featuring a double-breasted, botanical-patterned coat from Libertine and a studded bag from Khaite. Meanwhile, he donned a sleek, simple black tux.

The Sixteen Candles star and her husband had much to celebrate at the gala, as the south wing of the newly-opened galleries will be named Ressler Family Wing after the couple provided a $50 million donation to the museum, according to the New York Times. The pair are longtime patrons of the institution, with Ressler serving as the LACMA board’s co-chair since 2015.

However, that’s not the only major financial move the investor, whom Forbes recently said is worth over $10 billion, and his wife of 37 years have made. In fact, the duo, who wed in 1989, bought the NBA team Atlanta Hawks in 2015 for an estimated $720 million.

“He looked at me, and I looked at him, and he’s like, 'Jami, are we going to do this?’” Gertz recalled in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in 2018. “I’m like, 'I don’t know. I’m so scared.' And he’s like, 'It would be so much fun!’ And then we were jumping and screaming, 'Oh my God—we just bought a basketball team!'"

While some people might discount Gertz’s role in building their empire, the Twister alum has dismissed this misconception.

"Everyone thinks I married a rich guy," she continued to the outlet. "But I made more money—way more money—than Tony when I met him. I paid for our first house. I paid for our first vacation. I married him because I fell in love with him."

Now, the couple—who share four kids—splits their time between Los Angeles and Atlanta. While Gertz still acts on occasion, she has made her Hollywood aspirations less of a focus in recent years.

“It’s hard to even say it out loud because I love what I do,” she told the Hollywood Reporter. “It’s given me so many beautiful things in my life, taught me so many things about myself and the world around me.”
