Jack Nicholson fans were treated to a rare new glimpse of the Hollywood legend as he celebrated his 89th birthday this week.
The “Shining” star appeared in a photo shared by daughter Lorraine Nicholson, who posted the intimate moment to Instagram on Wednesday, April 22, with a simple caption: “89!!”
The image showed Nicholson smiling and clapping inside a cozy, art-filled home while dressed casually. Alongside him was music icon and longtime pal Joni Mitchell, adding another legendary name to the low-key celebration — both appeared to be clapping.
Lorraine, 36, also included a throwback image of her father from his younger years in the next slide. In that photo, Nicholson wore a bright red Coca-Cola T-shirt, held a cigar, and flashed the unmistakable grin that helped make him one of cinema’s most recognizable stars.
Nicholson has kept a notably low profile in recent years. Once a fixture on red carpets and a famous courtside presence at Los Angeles Lakers games, the “Departed” actor now appears in public only occasionally.
The birthday post comes after another family photo Lorraine shared last December, as well as Nicholson’s surprise appearance at the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special in 2025, where he introduced Adam Sandler.
Lorraine is one of Nicholson’s six children. She and brother Ray Nicholson are the children of Nicholson and actress Rebecca Broussard. His eldest child, Jennifer Nicholson, is from his relationship with Sandra Knight. Caleb James Goddard was born during Nicholson’s relationship with Susan Anspach.
Nicholson is rumored to also be father to Honey Hollman, whom he welcomed with Danish model Winnie Hollman, plus Tessa Gourin who is his daughter with Jennine Gourin. He hasn’t publicly confirmed if he fathered both children, however.
