EDWARDSVILLE — A Chicago-area man was charged Feb. 18 after an incident at an Edwardsville-area rest stop.
The 49-year-old Bolingbrook, Illinois, man was charged Feb. 18 with criminal sexual abuse, a Class 4 felony, and aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.
The charges were suppressed Feb. 18 and made public Feb. 27.
The Illinois State Police presented the case.
According to court documents, on Aug. 18, the suspect allegedly committed an act of sexual abuse on a 22-year-old man who was “unable to give knowing consent” by touching him without consent at the Homestead Rest Area, located on Interstate 55 South of Hamel. The suspect is accused of touching the man’s clothed penis without consent.
The suspect was ordered remanded to jail.
According to a petition to deny pre-trial release filed by the Madison County State’s Attorney, ISP troopers were dispatched to the rest area on Aug. 18 after a report of a sex assault.
The victim told troopers that the suspect was “peering through the slots in his bathroom stall” and waited for the victim to come out and started a conversation with him, then invited the victim back to his vehicle.
In the vehicle, the suspect then rubbed his hands across the victim’s body.
A lineup was performed on Nov. 19, and the suspect was interviewed on Jan. 7, saying he “didn’t really remember being at the rest area,” and was “not forthcoming about being in Southern Illinois.”
When confronted with surveillance footage, he admitted to being there, talking with the victim, and inviting the victim into the car, but denied that any touching other than a handshake occurred.
Edwardsville man charged with battery, obstruction
A 37-year-old Edwardsville man was charged Feb. 27 with aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony; obstructing justice, a Class 4 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
The SIUE Police Department presented the case.
According to court documents, on Feb. 25, the suspect allegedly repeatedly struck a household or family member and lied to police about whether the victim was living with him.
The suspect was ordered remanded to jail, and a motion for additional conditions for pre-trial release was filed by the State’s Attorney’s Office.
Glen Carbon man charged with battering 6-year-old
A 46-year-old Glen Carbon man was charged Feb. 26 with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.
The Glen Carbon Police Department presented the case.
According to court documents, on Dec. 10, the suspect allegedly struck a 6-year-old boy in the body.
The suspect was ordered remanded to jail, and a motion for additional conditions for pre-trial release was filed by the State’s Attorney’s Office.
Hartford man charged with attacking another person
A 57-year-old Hartford man was charged Feb. 26 with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department presented the case.
According to court documents, on Feb. 24, the suspect allegedly struck another man with a closed fist, breaking the victim’s nose.
The suspect was ordered released from custody.
Edwardsville man faces weapons charge
A 19-year-old Edwardsville man was charged Feb. 27 with aggravated unlawful possession of weapons, a Class 4 felony.
The Glen Carbon Police Department presented the case.
According to court documents, on Feb. 27, the suspect was allegedly found to be carrying a loaded and accessible .22 caliber Ruger rifle in a vehicle without a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card.
The suspect was ordered released from custody.
These individuals have only been charged and remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. All charges may not be reported.
