A man identified by police as a suspect in a series of sexual assaults targeting women across the San Fernando Valley has turned himself in, according to police.
Booking information shows 29-year-old Damian Denzell Robinson was arrested by the LAPD’s Devonshire Division around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday and booked into the Valley Jail in Van Nuys early Thursday.
Police confirmed on Thursday morning that Robinson surrendered Wednesday at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lancaster Station and is now in custody.
Robinson had previously been identified by detectives as the suspect in at least six reported assaults on April 19 in Northridge and Winnetka, where victims, several of them elderly, were approached in public places and attacked.
One of the incidents occurred around midday inside a Vallarta supermarket near Vanowen Street and Corbin Avenue in Winnetka, according to one report.
“I heard a woman calling for help,” one shopper told KTLA. “It’s instinct — you drop everything and rush over there. As soon as I came around the corner, I saw a large man rushing past me.”
The woman said the suspect approached her from behind and groped her before fleeing the store.
According to police, the assaults unfolded over several hours at multiple locations, including businesses, sidewalks and a retail store restroom. In some cases, the suspect allegedly attempted to pull down victims’ clothing or recorded the assaults on a cellphone.
Investigators used surveillance footage to identify Robinson, who is a registered sex offender with a prior conviction for indecent exposure and lewd conduct, authorities said.
Detectives have urged any additional victims to come forward as the investigation continues.
