'Concerned' Prince William and Princess Kate release statement after Golders Green attack

Although the Prince and Princess of Wales celebrated their anniversary on Wednesday, the royal couple were said to be 'concerned' following an attack on two Jewish men carried out on the same day

The Prince and Princess of Wales were left "concerned" following an attack on two Jewish men in Golders Green on Wednesday, the same day as the couple's 15th wedding anniversary.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: "The Prince and Princess of Wales are following the situation closely, and are, of course, concerned about the attacks upon the Jewish community. The innocent victims of today's attack are in their thoughts, and they wish them a speedy recovery."

The royal couple weren't the only members of the family to react to the shocking attack, as King Charles, who is currently on a state visit to the United States, was also said to be "deeply concerned".

The statement from Buckingham Palace read: "His Majesty is being kept fully informed and is naturally deeply concerned, in particular about the impact for the Jewish community.

"His thoughts and prayers are with the two individuals who were injured and offers his heartfelt gratitude to those who so selflessly rushed to their aid."

The attack took place on 29 April; two Jewish men, one in his 30s and the other in his 70s, were stabbed by a lone knifeman. The pair were both taken to hospital in the aftermath of the attack.

The suspected attacker was detained by volunteers at the scene before he was arrested by police. He also attempted to stab the arresting officers.

The Metropolitan Police declared the attack a terrorist incident hours after the incident, while Mark Rowley, the commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, noted that the suspect had a "history of serious violence and mental health issues".

The attack is part of a wider series of attacks that have been targeting the Jewish community in London, which started last month. On 23 March, four volunteer ambulances, run by charity Hatzola, were targeted in an arson attack. While no one was injured in the attack, the four ambulances were destroyed.

In the wake of the attack, the monarch became a patron of the Community Security Trust (CST), a charity which aims to protect the Jewish community living in the United Kingdom.

In a statement, the charity said: "His Majesty's longstanding commitment to promoting tolerance, inclusion and interfaith understanding aligns closely with CST's mission to protect British Jews."

Another attack, which targeted the Israeli embassy, led to the partial closure of Kensington Palace after "a number of discarded items" were found near the Israeli embassy. A social media video claimed the international headquarters was set to be targeted by drones carrying harmful substances.
