Mariska Hargitay's 'mind blown' after surprise on 'Law & Order' set

Mariska Hargitay was left stunned after an epic surprise from Melissa McCarthy on the 'Law & Order: SVU' set.

It takes a lot to genuinely shock Mariska Hargitay, but actress Melissa McCarthy managed to do exactly that.

The Emmy winner secretly stopped by the set of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” to film a surprise cameo in the Season 27 episode “Gimmick,” which aired Thursday, April 23.

A behind-the-scenes video shared to both actresses’ Instagrams on the same day showed her heading to set before sunrise while explaining the covert plan. “It’s 6 a.m. We are on our way to SVU to surprise Mariska. She does not know we’re coming. Everyone has been sneaking around behind boss lady’s back, lovingly,” McCarthy, 55, said.

To keep the reveal under wraps, she even arrived in the disguise of an old lady before changing into costume. When McCarthy casually approached and said hello, Hargitay, 62, quickly realized who was standing in front of her and immediately lost it.

“Holy mother of Christ,” Hargitay exclaimed. “Are you [expletive] kidding me?” The two shared hugs as Hargitay tried to process what had just happened. “I can’t remember the last time I was surprised like this. I’m so happy right now, I don’t know what to do,” she said.

McCarthy later appeared in the episode as Jasmyn Jewell, a pro fighter who helps Olivia Benson during an investigation while also flirting with the detective.

After the episode aired, Hargitay posted a selfie with McCarthy and wrote: “Mind blown and still doing the happy dance! 🥰🥳” She also commented on their co-authored post, writing, “Happy feet,” and “WORTH THE WAIT.”

The moment came during an emotional week for Hargitay, who also recently addressed the cancellation of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” starring longtime friend Christopher Meloni. “I saw it and burst out in tears, first of all,” she said in an interview after learning the show would not return.
