Incumbent Republican Sen. Jim Buck lost his re-election bid Tuesday, falling to Trump-endorsed challenger Tracey Powell in the GOP primary for Indiana's District 21.

The big picture: Buck's loss underscores the political risk facing Republicans who opposed President Trump's push to redraw Indiana's congressional districts.

State of play: Statewide, nearly every anti-redistricting Republican senator seeking re-election Tuesday was opposed by a challenger endorsed by Trump.

Driving the news: Tipton County Commissioner Powell collected nearly 65% of the vote with 84% precincts reporting, securing the GOP nomination.

  • In November, he will face Kirsten Root, who was victorious over Joseph Kazlas in the Democratic primary.

Outside of Central Indiana, other successful challengers with Trump support were Brian Schmutzler beating Linda Rogers in District 11, Blake Fiechter taking down Travis Holdman in District 19 and Michelle Davis beating Greg Walker in District 41.

Yes, but: Sen. Greg Goode, who was targeted in a "swatting" incident in November after criticizing redistricting efforts, beat Trump-backed challenger Brenda Wilson to maintain his District 38 seat.

  • "Folks here in Western Indiana, we made it about the district and at the same time blocked out all the noise and all of the drama while we did the work," Goode told Indiana Public Media
