The Dallas Cowboys wrapped up an impressive draft on Saturday as they looked to bolster both their current roster and long-term outlook.
One key piece fans still hope is part of that future is star wide receiver George Pickens, who remains in a contract standoff with the organization.
Reports surfaced this week that Pickens had signed the franchise tag — worth just over $27 million for the season — but ESPN’s Todd Archer clarified Monday that he has not signed it and did not report to voluntary workouts.
Pickens can still agree to a long-term deal until July 15. If he chooses not to sign the franchise tag, it could lead to a holdout — something Dallas appears to be preparing for with recent roster moves.
On Monday, the Cowboys agreed to a one-year deal with veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling and also signed Tyler Johnson to add depth at the position.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones continues to preach how much they want Pickens to remain in Dallas for the foreseeable future, but has not provided much of an update on the specifics of his contract negotiation.
“We really like him,” Jones said late Thursday night. “And I’m telling you right now, we can go, and we can live with two big-time receivers. It’s hard (with the salary cap), but we can live with two big-time receivers for the long haul.”
The Cowboys traded for Pickens last offseason and likely weren’t anticipating the production he had in his sole season in Dallas before a contract year.
He recorded 93 receptions for 1,429 yards, and nine touchdowns and ultimately it led to a much higher demand from Pickens in terms of the deal he was seeking.
