Adam Scott penalized for rule violation during Cadillac Championship

PGA Tour golfer Adam Scott was issued a two-shot penalty after he played the wrong ball at the 2026 Cadillac Championship.

PGA Tour golfer Adam Scott was issued a two-shot penalty after he played the wrong ball on the eighth hole during his first round at the 2026 Cadillac Championship.

Scott missed the fairway with his tee shot on No. 8, ending up in the left rough. The 45-year-old Australian golfer found what he thought was his ball and played it as his second shot. It was later determined that it was not in fact his ball.

Scott went back and found his actual tee shot, and continued to play the hole from there. He finished the hole with a par, which was later updated to a double-bogey 7.

“Adam Scott was assessed a two-stroke penalty during the first round of the Cadillac Championship for a breach of Rule 6.3c (wrong ball) that occurred on hole No. 8,” PGA Tour Communications wrote in a statement.

With this two-shot penalty, Scott finished his opening round at Trump National Doral’s Blue Monster Course with a 4-over 76. He ended the day with back-to-back bogeys on No. 17 and No. 18.

This week’s Cadillac Championship marks the first PGA Tour event at Trump National Doral since 2016, when Scott won what was then called the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship.

With several players still on the course, Cameron Young holds solo first place after carding an 8-under 64. Jordan Spieth holds solo second place at 7-under.
