- Ashley shared two daughters with Caleb, who were both in the residence during the shooting
- Caleb has since pleaded not guilty to a slew of charges he's facing, including murder
The family of Ashley Flynn has spoken out about the arrest of her husband in connection with her killing last month.
Caleb Flynn, 39, was arrested within days after Ashley, 37, was found fatally shot in their Tipp City, Ohio home on Feb. 16.
Recordings of a 911 call made by a man police alleged to be Caleb, as well as bodycam footage at the scene, appear to show Caleb repeatedly claim she was killed by an intruder.
"Somebody broke into my home and killed my wife," the caller said to a 911 dispatcher on Feb. 16. "She's got three shots to her and blood everywhere."
Three days later, Caleb was arrested on several charges, including murder, in connection with the killing.
In a statement provided to PEOPLE through their representative, Ashley's family said they support his arrest.
"Our family believes this arrest was made carefully and not without serious consideration," the statement reads, in part. "After speaking with both local police and federal authorities, we trust the proper steps were taken and the process if being handled appropriately."
Caleb's arrest came much in contrast to the distraught husband he appeared to be in the immediate aftermath of Ashley's death — as recorded on police bodycam footage.
Videos released by Tipp City authorities show Caleb wailing and throwing up as he waited with investigators inside his residence.
In one of the bodycam videos, Caleb is seen meeting a relative outside his residence as he continues to cry. The woman is identified as a grandmother of his children, but PEOPLE has not been able to independently verify whether she is Ashley's or Caleb's mother.
Ashley, a volleyball coach who was active in the local church, is being mourned for her kindness and the "light" she brought to those around her.
She shared two daughters with Caleb, who were both in the residence during the shooting and were awake by the time police arrived.
A GoFundMe has been set up to assist the children.
Caleb was previously a contestant on American Idol and in a 2013 interview on the show, he expressed his devotion to Ashley who he said he "love[s] more than anything."

Caleb was charged with murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence, according to online court records reviewed by PEOPLE.
In bodycam footage that documented his arrest, Caleb appeared shocked as he asked investigators what evidence they have, which police declined to share with him at that time.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
